It's a nice enough simple adventure story. The pacing is all over the place. It feels like 80% of the books events happen in the last 30% of the book.

There is also a significant amount of time dedicated to world building and scene setting, but somehow also the things that happen feel like they lack explanation and the discoveries in the world lack impact of the overall narrative.

Fine if you want an accessible, quick adventure.

Didn't feel drawn into this and it was a bit young for me.

I can’t remember much about this book, even after reading the blurb again. I do remember struggling to keep my attention on it – passing butterflies were distracting me. It had a vaguely “Moana” feel to it, and it did address a few gender-based societal expectations well enough. I only finished it because it was short… But today’s Rajie would have DNF’ed this book. For me, it would suit a middle grader, but there was not enough depth for adults to have the same reaction.

I've picked this book up so many times and read only a bit. Finally I finished it.
This is the kind of book, which does nothing for me at all - unfortunately - as the plot sounded interesting. There was no magic, not really, and the characters were not interesting either.

Everything just felt and read flat. This is why I'm giving it 2* stars.

But maybe you will like it.

That is a very intense and muddled way to start a book.
