At different parts of the story, I might have rated this work lower or higher. It's inventive, and I initially loved the character of Karou (even wishing we'd spent more of our time experiencing her life in Prague). However, there were long stretches when I lost interest, pressing on simply to finish. The very end restored a little faith, I'm glad to say, but I don't know how truly invested I am in this world.

audiobook note: A strong performance by Khristine Hvam, but this may be one of those books I would have liked more had I read it in print. More than once scenes were muddled because a transition wasn't clearly buffered or communicated, whereas a paragraph break or spacing would have signaled the change. I also wonder whether some of the issues I had with pacing would have been similarly offset with visual cues.

Seeing as it took me 6 months to read it, I may not have figured out what everyone loved about it so much but I'm hoping the second one is better.

At first I really liked it, it was so interesting! But then about half way through something just didn't seem right??? Like Karou and Akiva finally meet and all and
Spoiler I know they technically already knew each other but they didn't know that
but their romance still didn't seem right?? It felt like they fell in love too fast and
Spoiler I couldn't find any signs they had met before until they broke the wishbone tbh
so I kinda just skimmed through the rest of the book and I got pretty bored with it.. I really thought I was gonna like this one :/

I don´t really know what to think of this book.
First of all it was a very easy and quick read, I could have finished it in a day or too if it was not for work.
It had enemies to lovers but I wish were more of a slowburn that it is. And fantasy elements to it, which were very different and confusing at times. And I really liked that the book is set in Prague, even though I´ve never been. It feels like a lot of books are America based.
I am worried because I hope the book will not only be about Brimstone and co. I want more "problems" and adventure for Karou and Akiva.

i was SUPER intrigued by this book in the beginning. i thought the characters were so cool and the world was so cool. as the book went on it just went in a totally different direction that i didn’t love. however it was a really good book and well written and i definitely enjoyed it. it sounds like i didn’t like it bc of what i just said, but i really did lol. i’m excited for the next books, and i hope ill like them even more! the main reason i dropped a star was the relationship. the instalove was strong in this one imo.

I kept hearing good things about this book so I decided to read it.
I am disappointed because I didn't like this as much as everyone else liked it.

The beginning started off good but then after a few chapters in I thought it was getting slow and boring. It would have been better without the long flashback and the action was limited to the beginning and the end so that is why I am giving it 2 stars.
