A great short story collection I keep rereading for comfort and entertainment. My favorite story is Mr. P and the wind

Great cast of narrators! Love McBride’s writing style, particularly the tales from The Bottom - moments were reminiscent of August Wilson. Poetic, dynamic.

Very engaging and unique stories! They all had such rich ideas and really meaningful endings which were a bit unexpected. It kept you on your toes and had a good flow. My favourites were Buck Boy, Goat, The Christmas Dance and Mr P and the Wind. Buck Boy was so heartfelt and you really felt for the characters with an amazing ending. I loved the story of Goat and the ending changes everything and made me sit and wonder for a bit. The Christmas Dance is sad and bittersweet and Mr P and the Wind has great storytelling and world-building.
