Books 1 and 2 are both fantastic. The story is engrossing and the characters are wonderful. Jory is gorgeous, fun, flirtatious and Sam is strong and tough. The supporting characters are excellent, including Dane and Sam's family. Beware the cliffhanger at the end of each book as you just have to start the next book straight away to see what happens!

An exhausting but enjoyably lightish read, despite the subject matter, not sure Jory will ever be a favourite MC but he does have a certain charm!
I think Jory and Sam's story is told over 4 books, this volume covering books 1 & 2 so on its own, it doesn't have a closure ending,
Spoiler leaving Jory sick and Sam gone

Jory witnesses a crime and despite being offered witness protection, he goes home - wouldn't you just want to slap him round the head! And that's Jory - bouncy, exuberant, lovable, lonely, intuitive, annoying, unpredictable, looking for love.
Sam Kage is the detective whose surveillance operation Jory scuppered and who eventually succumbs to Jory's charms - but he is still thinking he will marry a nice girl and have kids.
Jory is fairly fleshed out in a WYSIWYG way, Sam is still a bit of an enigma, as well as coming across as a bit of a bully to me.
Still not sure about Dane, he gets a lot of page time for a friend, even an almost-brother one. And I keep thinking someone close to Jory is going to catch a bullet meant for Jory.
It is an emotional rollercoaster with break ups, make ups, shoot outs, matchmaking, unrequited love, kidnapping, double crossing - just about anything you can think of! It won't be everyones cup of tea, but I did quite like it! 3.5*

Re-read (24 May 2019):

Sam is such an utter asshole. I can't remember why I got back on board the Jory/Sam train after this volume. Maybe it's because I just love to hate Sam's guts. Jory is a dumbass but he's also funny and I can't help it, I still like him the second time around.

Early Mary Calmes is my weakness, so I'm pretty sure I'll be re-reading this again.

This was a book just impossible to put down!!

The relationship between Dane and Jory it's a heartwarming one and their dialogues were just the funniest thing to read without lacking a wide variety of other emotions (love, anger, exasperation, friendship and so much more).

Sam though can only be described as someone you hate to love and love to hate. Still you can't fault him much (only about 90%) when he comes to the realization of his orientation in the age of 35. The poor man has a lot to come to grips with though that doesn't excuse tossing around Jory's heart.

The book has everything one wishes to come upon a book ^^
