Les Troyennes follows the aftermath of the fall of Troy through the eyes of its eponymous women, Hecuba, the former queen, Cassandra, her daughter, and Andromaca, Hecuba's daughter-in-law.
Fun fact: Andromaca means "[she] who fights men", acclaimed as one of the best wives in mythology, if not the best. Make of that what you will.
This piece is mainly one string of lamentations. However, the author uses the advantages and ameliorates its weak points with both skill and style. The relative monotony of the beginning serves to underscore the powerful scenes at the end, also, between swift exchanges and one-page replies, the play reads as a tragic musical.

While not remotely close to the best Greek tragedies, The Trojan Women was fun and interesting reading. It takes place after the fall of Troy and the women of Troy are being taken as slaves (Hecuba, Andromache, Helen, and Cassandra) and spend most of the play lamenting their fate, prophesying difficulties for the Greeks, arguing over whether Helen was at fault or blameless, and dealing with the sacrifice of Astyanax, the son of Hector and Andromache, who is thrown off the walls of Troy to prevent any of Priam's male descendants from living. Men are notably absent with the exception of a brief part of Menelaus and a Greek herald (who plays a large role, but largely narrative).
It is an interesting exploration of the emotions associated with defeat, resignation and defiance. It is also a tragic and powerful anti-war story that center's women and the victims of the war. But it lacks any major choices, developments, or animating but unfolding inevitability of events that many of the other, great Greek tragedies have.

Hommes de l'Europe,J'avais lu la traduction de Sartre il y a de nombreuses années quand j'étudiais l'histoire au lycée, avant d'aller à l'université où j'ai étudié les classiques/humanités et lu cette pièce dans sa langue originale et en anglais. Moi j'ai trouvé la traduction française pas nul.
vous méprisez l'Afrique et l'Asie
