What a delight. I listened to the audio book, read by Neil Patrick Harris. He is an exceptional narrator, and captures the whimsy and adventure of the fun story he wrote beautifully. I highly recommend this as a quick mood boost for readers of any age.
It had a cute, snarky tone, but was too cute no full of too many “magical” coincidences. A fun, junk food series for kids who like hijinks and ragtag bands of misfits.
A sweet story about belonging, acceptance, and finding a family wherever you can.
An enjoyable mystery that features magic and teaches children how to do magic tricks. I am usually suspicious of celebrity author books but this one exceeded my expectations.
Read for 3GR bookclub. This was niece's pick because she's ready whole series and loves it. Thought it was too simplistic, even for the intended age range, particularly the explaining what words mean parts. She's in 4th grade but definitely could be read by 3rd or even advanced 2nd.
So I got this book for Christmas and my mom only got it for me because I love Neil Patrick Harris and cause it was signed. It was so cute and in the book there are a bunch of little puzzles for the reader to figure out and instructions for how to do magic tricks. NPH did such a good job with this book and i honestly really want to read the second one cause the first one was just so cute!
Think Nancy Drew meets a Series of Unfortunate Events with Magicians! This novel is a fun mystery book that introduces young readers to the world of performance magic. About five times in the book, Harris pauses the adventure to teach his readers how to perform various magic tricks. The characters in the book are so diverse in their personalities and identities and it comes off as very natural. This book in the series especially discusses the importance of friendship and how loneliness can vanish if you have the right friends by your side.
I enjoyed the narration, but the book itself just didn't do it for me.
