In terms of writing, this story is all over the place. (Issue #6 is a straight up backdoor pilot for Detective Comics that has nothing to do with the rest of the story.) The art is beautiful and wonderful as it's Steve Epting (regular artist) and Stephanie Hans (flashback issue).

Pretty solid, that woman isn’t the most well-known character I like how they introduced who she was, in this short little flashback and you understood the character pretty well. Well, the book is loosely, tied to the monsters and men event that was going on in Batman at the time. quickly goes away as we see Kate Kane deal with a piece of her past I’ve seen some complaints that we don’t get enough backstory, but there’s enough flashbacks spaced throughout the book that shows us what she was doing during that year on the island. Also, Steve Eptings art is fantastic. It’s a shame that he didn’t stay on for other volumes in the series. My only complaint with the trade is I feel a bit cheated did the four issues give us a pretty solid story The fifth issue is a flashback and then the sixth story doesn’t relate to anything prior in the book and it’s about a future cake cane dealing with this Batman, like threat in the future that didn’t really make a lot of sense, and felt misplaced in this book.

I'm behind on the post JH Williams III Batwoman volumes, but this was a good start for the Rebirth line that left me wanting more background on what has been transpiring both during the gap between trades and in the not-too-distant-future in the trade. (e-galley from NetGalley)

I was pretty excited about this one after enjoying [b:Batwoman: Elegy|6911529|Batwoman Elegy|Greg Rucka|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1492568441s/6911529.jpg|7137063] so much. Ultimately, I was very disappointed. The artwork was great but the story didn't do it for me at all. I didn't enjoy the writing, the story, or the characters. But I loved the art. So there's that.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the digital ARC.

The art was fantastic! Plot fluctuated between really good and meh. Will be reading more Batwoman in the future.
