larpar's review against another edition
I gave this book faaaar more chances than I normally would have since it was for book club. But did not finish due to the romanticizing of child abuse and an inappropriate relationship being described as an affair and detailed as “non statutory rape since the legal age of consent is 16”. I would never recommend this book and will not be reading anything by this author going forward.
Graphic: Bullying, Child abuse, Toxic relationship, Death of parent, and Murder

Minor: Child abuse and Suicide
DO NOT READ THIS BOOK. Inappropriate handling of sensitive topics. Truly think this is the worst book I have read. I think if it was just poorly written I wouldn’t be writing such a review but it was also highly offensive and portrayed inappropriate teacher student relationships badly and without thought (like I’m not sure that even makes a lot of sense because this book is so infuriating I can’t explain it properly)shaleen64's review against another edition

Whilst this isn’t Freida McFadden’s best thriller it is in keeping with her usual twists and turns and well thought out character relationships.
However, covering the complex trope of student/teacher relationships was unexpected, as was the revelation to who Jay was.
If you like Freida McFadden this book won’t disappoint but is unlikely to be your new favourite.

My opinions: I thought that this book was well written and thought out. I liked the different points of view. HOWEVER, I thought that this book was LACKING, I knew where this book was going as soon as it started to get into it. But also NATE FRUSTRATED ME SO MUCH. I saw what was coming. And I have no idea what genre you might be able to put it in. It is not a murder mystery AT ALL. It is not a thriller because it has no plot twists. And I don't know if you would be able to put it in a psychological thriller. I loved what happened to Eve at the end, but also, she went a little crazy. There should definitely be warnings ⚠️ for burying people alive.
OVERALL it was a solid read

This book has a couple of scenes where characters get buried alive and you get to see it from their perspective.
