Book #24 Read in 2015
Hissy Fitz by Patrick Jennings (YA)

This is a cute read for upper elementary and middle school students. Hissy is a cat who just wants a quiet house so he can catch up on his sleep. That being said, he lives with a noisy family with a carpenter dad and three active children. When tired, Hissy gets, well, hissy. At night he ventures out into the neighborhood to try to work off his excess energy. This is a good read for young cat lovers. I borrowed this book from my public library.

This book was not a funny as his others. I expected more excitement and antics and it just didn't happen.

Are you looking for a cat-centric book for the little one in your life? You should check out Hissy Fitz by Patrick Jennings. Hissy is a cat who isn't getting enough sleep because of his noisy family. Dad makes banging noises all day and then when the kids get home, if Georgie isn't talking his ear off, Zeb is chasing him around the house. How is a kitty supposed to get any rest? His name comes from all the hissing he does to express his disgust with the humans in his life.

Hissy Fitz is a chapter book suited for kids 7-9 years old. The chapters are short and easy for the young reader to handle. The book teaches a useful lesson about the proper way to handle a cat and how to read his signals. Hissy is a loveable character, he just isn't loved in the way he wants to be loved.

Patrick Jennings is also the author of Guinea Dog and teaches creative writing to middle-schoolers. The story is accompanied by black and white illustrations by Michael Allen Austin.

Warning: Sleep deprived cat goes on a tantrum

This is an okay story for a _much_ younger crowd...especially one that is already used to cats peculiar way of acting, and thinking (aka, kids who won't be forever traumatized by this insane, scary cat who attacks kids and steals their sneakers!).
This arc edition has most of its inside art pictures missing, so I can't comment on them.
Besides that, there isn't much more that I can say about this novella, besides wishing that Hissy's voice didn't sound so mature.
And human.

Moral of the story: Just let the cat sleep!
