this entry moves the crew outside of the Icewind Dale and so opens up the continent of Faerûn more than the series has yet seen. it also brings back an unexpected minor character from previous books and introduces what promises to be a major figure in the Drizzt mythology. Salvatore is as meditative and logical a writer as ever. this was a fun read and I’m excited to see how the series continues to grow!

So far, the best book in the series. I'm always impressed with how Salvatore manages to weave a wonderful story along with what seems to be his picture of "the ideal man." Take time to really read the prefaces to the different Parts of the book, and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Not without its memorable moments, but few and far between. I like imagining the antagonists are just whiney, snivelling teenagers because that's how I feel their dialogue is written and that perspective really brightens up the bits that drag :)

Was a fun ride. Would have given 4 stars, if the dwarf had died. Feels too unfair for him to survive a crash that killed a dragon.

rereading the series after so long makes it clear how much salvatore has grown as a writer since the first trilogy. Even the second trilogy is leaps and bounds beyond the first.

I don't know how these books always have such a new and exciting adventure every time, but I'm not going to question it too much. The pacing was great and I loved the adventure.
