The thing about having this one overlap with Caribbean Heiress is that is makes Luz Alana and Manuela feel very uninvolved in each others lives.

I enjoyed this sapphic take on a time in Paris that isn’t always reflective of the bipoc and or sapphic community. Manuela and Cora are sizzling together but it takes a while for that fire to burn (not in the slow burn way but more in a plot /exposition development way.) The sex scenes are steamy but I wanted more evidence of their bonding outside of the steam.

Positives

The author presents a sapphic romance on the backdrop of a well-researched historical Paris. I loved hearing about the lesbian social scenes and artist communes alongside the development of Manuela and Cora’s relationship.

The story also goes full drama in the third act.

Negatives

At times I was a little taken aback by Manuela and Cora’s passion for each other. I also wasn’t convinced Cora’s resolution at the end was sustainable in the long term.
