I wasn’t expecting it, but this book was amazing! As a chemistry professor and a romance lover, I felt like I had to read this. While the FMC had the code name “the chemist”, she is actually an MD who ventures into bioengineering and some chemical synthesis. The actual science was well done and things that were questionable, were left intentionally vague, which I was okay with. There wasn’t any bad science, which already makes this a good read! The romance was partly a side-plot, but still integral to the rest of the story. While names are ever-changing in this book, I didn’t ever get lost or confused by them. I can’t name names in this review or it would be some major spoilers, but I genuinely liked all three main characters. There was a really great tension built between two “enemies” working together. The romantic chemistry was also really well done - it wasn’t explicit but also was appropriate for the characters in their situations. The mystery itself was fantastic. I had no idea how it was going to end and it kept me on my toes. There is violence and death mentioned and some of it is gory, but not excessively so. Overall, this is a really excellent read and I only wish I read it sooner! 5⭐️, 1🌶, ⚠️
Moderate: Gore, Injury/Injury detail, Blood, Gun violence, Violence, and Torture

Knowing Stephanie Meyers, I was not expecting to like this book as much as I did. The loner, Alex, stays under the radar to avoid her assassins. Her previous job in Black Ops exposed her to too much vital information, and her previous employers knew it. When she is contacted by her previous boss, promising an end to the assassins if she helped with an important case involving a biological weapon, it was too good of a deal to turn down. A flirty mark, loyal dogs, a badass and violent brother... there are so many twists and turns. Betrayal, set ups, SCIENCE, so many good things. I really enjoyed how much science was involved. This book was definitely not what I expected from Meyers, but I really enjoyed it. Doesn't seem her writing style, but it worked! You could definitely tell it was her writing the book, by the awkward and too detailed sex / intimate scenes.
