this is not my usual read, but it is a modern classic so I figured I’d do a review on it anyway! I read this for a book club I joined, and I did like it, but it kinda depressed me a little bit. Not a whole lot, but more than what I typically read since I am a big HEA romance girlie. This is less about what happens in the book and more about how the main character, Laurel, feels about what happens. Her parents are both dead, and this is an exploration of grief, love in regards to memory, and acceptance. It’s very southern (takes place in Mississippi mostly), and I’d recommend this to someone who wants something to really think about.

How on Earth did this book win the Pulitzer Prize?!?! I can appreciate most of her works, but Welty COMPLETELY bored me to tears on this one.
