Listened to this audiobook on the Libby app. Just a short 5 hour book compared to the last one of 18 hours (MacBeth). A young adult category book and was written from a child’s perspective. Very clever idea and thought provoking. Well worth a read and especially the interview with the author at the end of the audiobook.

I never mention the blurb in my reviews but this one was so special that I just had to mention how beautiful it was, I truly think it was a masterpiece of art that should get its own notice.

The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas has always screamed emotional read and the few times I've read it in my younger years it did seem like it was, but now I don't think it really is. I wasn't as emotionally attached to any of the characters, and as a result wasn't able to bond with them, maybe because nearly all of them are Nazis? But it felt like a bland until Pavel helped Bruno and then Shmuel came into it. However, Pavel and Shmuel both brought a fair amount of interest into the story.

The only characters that really interested me were Shmuel and Pavel, they were innocent victims that was written sweetly, but again even they could only hold my interest for so long. I don't know what it was with this book, but it didn't really keep me going, I was ready for it to be over so I could move on and that's such a shame because I loved the movie and I remember loving this book as a kid.

Gosh, I started reading this book wanting to shake some sense into Bruno.. But I'm sure when I was 9 years old someone would have wanted to do the same. However nearing the end of the book I was about to ball my eyes out and the reality of the Second world War hit me like a flood of rage.
Even though I'm still sitting here wondering what happened to Pavel the waitor who is actually a doctor.
I loved the journey that John Boyne took me on, looking at it through a innocent 9 year Olds eyes, not knowing much about the world and anything in it.
