Uuuuuggghhhh I want more books in the ‘how to be normal series’!!!!

Gustavo Tiberius is, like, my favorite literary character ever, I think. My favorite bits of how to be a movie star were when Gustavo made a reappaearance.

Forewarning, this books is about slow to start. Like, it took me 6+ months to finally get into it and then I ended up finishing the second half in only a few days

Another 5 star T. J. Klune book. This one started off a bit slow for me, but picked up. As usual, I was laughing out loud while also feeling a bit emotional.

Review:

The diversity of this book is just the absolute best

Review previously placed on my blog:

I'm currently reading How to be a movie star by TJ Klune. This is the second book in the How to be duology. I'm reading the ebook. Reading this for my Series and Authors TBR. This is a contemporary book with romance elements and LGBTQ+ characters.

I really enjoyed book one and I'm enjoying this one as well. What I especially love about this duology is all the diversity, really fun to read. I do think I'm liking this one a bit less, because of the actor element. So might be a bit of a lower rating, but we shall see.

No, still 4 stars. Mainly because I appreciate this book, and this duology, so much for the diversity. The ending also just made me really happy.

3.5 Stars*

I'm not sure how I feel about this. As a sequel, it was enjoyable enough.

Josy was a great character, and was fun to read from. He had a few funny moments, but I didn't find him laugh out loud funny (as with Gus in book one). He was almost a little beige. He's really sweet and mushy, and a great match for Quincy, but I just didn't quite click with him as a character.

Quincy I did like - I think I'd have perhaps enjoyed the story a little more if it had been told from his perspective. I thought he grew really well as a character through the book, and I'd love to have seen more of his back story.

For some reason the story also included full sections where Josy and other characters who were actors were completely in character as other characters. Confused? I certainly was. I didn't enjoy those parts at all. They were absolutely skippable and you could read the book without them.

For me, the highlights came in the 2nd half - and this was purely due to the appearances from Casey and especially Gus. It was Gus again who stood out for me during this book and made me laugh out loud - it was Gus who gave me the feels - it was Gus who I just adored from book one. I loved
Spoiler the whole thing with him wanting to propose to Casey - this was so lovely and I wanted to see more of this.

I don't know. As a book, it was good enough - but it had big shoes to fill following on from the first book, and I don't think it quite managed that.
