Insomnia gave me insomnia.
Liked:
1. The inspirations from Greek Myth. This is very strange, I've heard some incredibly weird things from Rose Madder, and it spooked me when I heard the names of the Fates, but no, King treated them correctly, as cool characters, and one as an amazing villain.
2. The true insanity of the villains. Now this book I'd say has about three major villains. Atropos is just an agent of chaos in this book. He's crazy and I love him. Ed Deepnau is eerily similar to some people I've read news articles about which is fucking terrifying. And this is the first introduction to the Crimson King, one of the main villains of Dark Tower.
3. Ralph and Lois. I've read several Stephen King books at this point, and he isn't the best with romantic relationships in my opinion. There are some good ones though. Ralph and Lois are one of them. They're really happy and things happen.
4. Return to Derry. Now, Derry's a setting I really don't want to revisit, for several reasons, but Mike's back. And Mike's my favorite of the Losers, he's barely in the book, but he's still in the book.
5. How politically charged the book is. This might be King's most politically-charged story, which is hilarious considering he has written not only a book about an insane politician but also an 1100-page book about the Kennedy assassination. The abortion stuff doesn't feel like it's crammed down your throat, so it fits as a nice back plot.
6. The epilogue. That epilogue damn near made me cry. It was so sad, I need to read Bag of Bones now, to get some more closure.
