I really liked this book. I was a bit reluctant at first since it was a recommendation from booktok.

Lily is sweet and adorable. She writes all her thoughts in a diary and the author portrayed very beautifully the depression and pain she was going through. She had no hope left, that is until Colin suddenly appears in her life and turns it upside down. Somehow his presence in her life also changed the way she talked, meaning she was both confused and relieved at the same time.

The book itself is a full roller coaster of emotions, so I suggest you have some napkins with you.

Alright, Iโ€™ve given myself a day to get all my thoughts intact and Iโ€™m confident with my rating.

The idea of this story was an amazing one. Seeing someone care so much that theyโ€™d want to play hero to someone who is too far gone to be saved. Amazing idea, but poor execution. There were many spelling errors (sorry but it has to be said) and, in my opinion, the story was so poorly portrayed that I felt myself having to skim parts. The representation of how depression is, was the only realistic part in this story. But aside from that, it was poorly represented in my opinion.

When someone is so far gone in themselves because of their mental health, no one can save them aside from themself. A guy cannot save a person nine days in to meeting them. Itโ€™s just truly not possible.

The brother knowing what was going on and leaving all the pressure on to Colin to save Lily was so unfair to read. That pressure on him was just heartbreaking, especially seeing the love he began to have for her. Also, I HATE what Lily did at the end. She made the person she loves believe that she is dead, just for her to surprise him by being alive? I wouldnโ€™t have forgiven her for that. Sorry, but I just wouldnโ€™t. The poor mental health representation in this book, when it could have been amazing is whatโ€™s worse to think about.

i see the vision, but it wasn't executed well. i really enjoyed the plot of this book, it has quite a few grammatical errors but it was still readable. it just really needs some polishing! i have a few issues with it, mostly character wise.
some of them do things that seem really off and unlike how theyre written. like aaron knowing about lily's plan the entire time? but never saying or doing anything about it? while he's established as this protective older brother. it just didn't seem to match up with him. and winter- i didn't like her at all. i know that was probably the point, she was supposed to be a bad friend, even though lily wasn't very nice to her either. in the beginning lily seemed very unlikable and mean, which i guess is the reality of mental illness sometimes but i dislike the fact that they were supposedly long term best friends and didn't even like each other and rarely seemed to spend time together. i don't understand the relationship lily has with her mom. in her inner monologue and some of the letters, she says her mom was a good mother and how her and lily loved each other but then when she turned 15 it seemed like a switch had flipped- what's that about? i feel like randomly deciding you hate your kid and want her dead doesn't just Happen, you know? and there wasn't really any memories of her being a good mom before then. i would've liked to explore that relationship more. the nickname lily gave her notebook was just... cringey and awkward and doesn't really make any sense. the steamy parts were written well but kind of threw me off because colins character doesn't seem like the type that would have sex with a girl he knew was going to die in a few days, it seemed really strange!

Such a great book! Focused on a sensitive topic while remaining thoughtful at no point did the author make it seem like Lilyโ€™s suicidal thoughts could be instantly fixed. Only downside was the language being slightly odd at points which disrupted the flow but otherwise a fab book
