Language is excellent
Really enjoy the excellent language in this book but I don't enjoy reading about many of the themes covered. I also miss female protagonists and other Scottish marginalisations in this collection. This was a book club choice and it has certainly left me with plenty to discuss, but I would not reach for it again.

The football story was just a joke stretched out. The one about the homophobe was really lame. The Begbie story didn't add anything. I think the one about the strip club was something that didn't make the Trainspotting cut.
The Rosewell Incident, however, was amazing. An alien race of football hooligans is such a great idea. If only more of our aliens could be gangsters and hoodlums instead of aristocrats and corporate types.
I am Miami was worth the read, as well. If only for the reminder that Welsh knows how to write when he wants to.

Welsh really impressed me again in this book. All of the stories were amusing or insightful or a little bit of each. His best in this was definitely 'I Am Miami', the last in the book. It was funny, yet sad, yet....really sort of uplifting in the end, something I don't think much Welsh books are, but it's great to see. Overall, really wonderful, and a much needed great book after the (to me) tepid If You Liked School...
