I loved how this kicked off immediately with the dome coming down, and how the nearly 900 pages covered just over a week of under-the-dome time yet it felt really fast paced. After a few chapters I felt fully immersed in Chester’s Mill and along for the ride.

The dome brought out the worst of the people trapped under it, and exposed the evil that was already in the works… probably one of my favourite SK novels so far!

I think this might be my favorite Stephen King yet. I hated character so much I wanted to kill them myself. I loved them so much I cried.
My poor hair almost all got pulled out from the intensity of it all.

Biggest criticism: the ending happened too quickly. A habit of Mr King.

Also this has every single major trigger warning you can think of. If you are someone who needs content warnings for your own mental safety and security, this is NOT the book for you! If you like fucked up shit and to experience triggering things then give it a go

I finished this book out of spite, I'm not going to lie. Even when this was published, Stephen King had been in the game far too long to lean on his tired shock value routine. The acts of fictional characters do not reflect on the author, but the author's choices on how those acts are told certainly does in this case. It's lazy storytelling at best.
For a man who has made money offering advice to writers, you'd think he'd a) understand how human beings speak, b) put some respect into writing women, c) learn how to tell a shocking story without slurs, random gross out "humor," and graphically described sexual assault.
This book is a remarkably weak story hiding behind cheap, edgy humor and good worldbuilding.

It was… fine. Gratuitously violent, wayyyy too long, and the “reasons” were ridiculous. I have never written a CW list this long, and I hope to god I will never write one this long again.

Stephen King could’ve made a point here, but he threw it all away for some
goddamn fucking aliens
so, overall, the book was just… meh 🤷🏼‍♀️

this book kept me on edge the whole time. i absolutely hated the villains, king did a good job making them the most annoying and awful people. it was like i was watching a drama tv show, a fucking emotional rollercoaster. something bad happens to main characters— shit! something good happens to them — phew😮‍💨 i know it’s how it’s supposed to be, but in a lot of cases i just don’t care enough to care about the characters. perhaps, it’s more of a me problem, still. this book is by far my favorite of king’s.

Oh wow, where should I start.

Stephen King is one of my most favorite authors since I’m 14 and under the dome made me remember why. The way he tells stories, describes his characters and his choice of words is truly unique. I loved the humor and the portray of the madness of men and I think I rarely came across that well-written villains. The plot was intriguing, sometimes shocking and partly so realistic, that I started praying we never end up under a dome in real life.

This book is an intimidating and freaking heavy brick. It sat on my shelf for seven years, I tried to get through it four times and never made it past page 200 and honestly I never thought I‘d ever finish it.
Don’t ask what made me pick it up and give it another try - I don’t know, I‘m a mood reader and sometimes feel just drawn to books. I set myself daily page goals around 170 pages per day this time to keep myself motivated, but often ended up reading way more than that. Because even if it’s that big, it doesn’t feel like it. What makes this book huge is the insane number of characters and subplots - I‘m a tad conflicted if all of them were really necessary. Especially because the "big reveal" and finale was in contrast too short and shallow in my opinion. The story is built up over that many pages and we are left with .. that? Really? Apart from if the conclusion made sense or is a good one, I‘d at least have liked more details and screentime.

Nevertheless it was a very exciting and thrilling page-turner. For sure no comfort read, but something to get lost in.

Give me two last seconds to rant about the tv adaption - that thing should not exist. It’s a shame.
