As a huge Darren Shan fan who eagerly devoured Demonata, The DS saga and The City trilogy like they were air I was quite disappointed with this. It's a good idea and a potentially good story but I found myself getting bored and forcing my way to end (I had to finish) which is upsetting since I think Shan is brilliant. It might just be me though.

The middle was SOOO long. I was interested enough in the beginning and the end, but Jebel started putting me off in the middle by being SO arrogant. The end was what REALLY makes me like the book; so romantic~~.

The thin executioner by darren shan is possibly now one of the most revered books ill commit to memory. The story of young Jebel lives up the standards of the acclaimed new york times best selling author. The style is changed in a way from his cirque and demonata series alike with jebel facing peril after peril towards an unexpected but much applauded ending.I could tell you of the many things i liked from the itricate scenery to be imagined to the wide array of religious views and standpoints but the thing i liked most about this book is its ability to bring back everything youve read in its past pages to its future ones. You will not forget any of the events or people in this story as they come back to make sure you remember their presence. In a world where only deceit, hatred, and greed prosper and razed entire world Jebel has rose among its grime and found the light that will guide these people.

I love this book, as I loved it in 2010 when I first read it. It is written almost like an epic and I really appreciate this as an adult. It is more violent than I remember- not gory, just depressing. There are a lot of good lessons to be learned from this book and I feel like if I reread it another 6 times I would learn something new each time. This book made me very anti-death penalty as a young teen, so it is interesting to see that as an adult [spoiler warning ahead]
Spoiler and a prison abolitionist now I was disappointed in the ending. Prison is better than the death penalty for sure, but I wish the book had focused more on social reform in the end than imprisonment.

Darren Shan has been one of my favorite authors since I, a day in the autumn or winter of 2003, laid my hands on the Norwegian edition of Cirque du freak, the first book in the Saga of Darren Shan. Since then I’ve been hooked.
Therefore I got quite happy when I came a cross his two newest creations at Stansted Airport UK. One of them was “The Thin executioner.”

The thing that always attract me with Darren Shan’s books is the really serious matter hidden inside the book. In “The Thin executioner” we meet young Jebel Rum, he is the youngest child of the towns executioner in a world and society that seems to be far from ours but we soon realize that is closer to ours than first anticipated.

I enjoyed this book very much, as I always does when I read any of Darren Shan’s books. He has a way of telling a story which makes everything so clear and he always leave small hints for you (you usually finds them the second time you read the given book). There’s always a red tread through the story, the characters develop.

Found this in the second hand bookshop in Clifton and couldn't resist a book written by an author that I devoured as a wee sullen teenager.

First half was a little slow and then the second half was incredible and by the the end I was feeling so moved.

What a quest!!
