I wanted to like this book so badly, and yet it just fell a little bit short for me. This is going to be one of those reviews where it just wasn’t my cup of tea but I am at the other end of spectrum because this book is getting some crazy amazing reviews.
The plot of this book was so good and well thought and I really enjoyed it. The characters moved really slowly throughout their relationship and Ansel did not push Indy at all. He let her come to her own realizations which I really enjoyed. I loved getting his POV of her, and how while being a grumpy old man with everyone else he would look at her and think something was just adorable. The mystery behind the paintings was cool, however if you are a detective at all you figure out what the big secret is.
It was so much harder for me to connect to Indy, she seemed a little more selfish to me. While Ansel seemed the giver in the relationship she was the taker. Maybe that’s the way it works for their relationship but I couldn’t handle it for this book. There was also something else that happened with Indy that while it happened seemed no big deal to her until later, this really bothered me however I won’t reveal because spoilers.
I guess the big problem for me was just the connection, the writing was amazing, and the plot was phenomenal. I just couldn’t connect for the life of me and I so wanted too. I will definitely give these authors another go on another book though.

Gah! This book!! It's such gorgeous love story. The fab duo of Max & Monroe completely blew me away with this standalone. It had so much heart and gave me all the feels. The Girl in Painting is kind of story that will grab you and hold you from the very beginning until the last page. Oh my gosh, I devour every word. It's so different from a typical Max Monroe book but just as amazing.
I absolutely loved the connection between Ansel and Indy. They're so meant to be it makes my heart full. I love a broody yet swoony hero and Ansel is just that. Ahhh! I love him so much.
I don't want to give too much away. I feel this is one is best if you go in blind but I highly recommend this one if you believe in fate and in love.

I have been on the Max Monroe bandwagon ever since their first book dropped. I’d imagine after the book lovers of Romancelandia get their mitts on this beauty, there won’t be an empty seat on said bandwagon.
These two authors are uber talented in their own right, but together they are an unstoppable force to be reckoned with. I’ve adored each story I’ve read from them but this book is on a whole other level. It’s beautiful, it’s brilliant, it’ll be tattooed in my brain forever as one of the best books I’ve had the pleasure to read in 2019.
Go in blind. No pun intended. Immerse yourself in their words. Breathe it all in and savor it. I just finished and I already want to re-read it.
Absolutely breathtaking.

I have read almost all of Max Monroe's books, and this one is still my favorite.
It's a lot different from most of their books. There's still comedy, but it's more subtle. This book is all about the twist, and it's SO HEARTBREAKING. Indy making those two visits rips my heart out and stomps on it. The payoff is adorable and worth it.
Still 5 stars on the re-read.

This story hooked me in the beginning. I was here for this plot. I was INVESTED!
BUT when Indy just CRIIIIIIIIIIIED for the last 1/3 of the book, I was over it. She still did not communicate what the heck happened very well. *rolls eyes dramatically*
I thought the book had a lot of promise, but the ending just fell apart for me.
