I tried so hard to like this book! But omg, it was awful!!!! This book should have been right up my alley, but it didn't have one redeemable quality, except maybe Edward. His story seems compelling, and I cared more about him than anyone else. But even still, I just couldn't stand the rest of the characters. Chantal was disgusting, and so was William! Lane was a douche who didn't deserve Lizzie. And Lizzie was such a doormat!! I get she still loved Lane and love like that is hard to let go of, but she just rolled over for him and let him back in with very little fight! If the characters weren't bad enough, the writing itself was awful. How much drama did she need to fit into a 400-page book? Choose one or two things and write it well! Not fill the book with so much drama and horrible characters that it eclipses everything. I normally love books with drama and second chance romances, but this one wasn't done well. It was not written with compelling characters nor a storyline that made any sense. It felt like the author threw out all the abuses and bad things and thought that it made a novel đ I'm so disappointed with this book!!

This is one of the worst books Iâve ever read.
Lizzie and Lane have 0 chemistry, weâre told theyâre in love but thatâs just it, weâre told. They âfall in loveâ after being together for two months when (shock) his playboy antics break them up. They pine for two years and then when they see each other, get back together almost immediately. There is absolutely zero tension. Lane loves Lizzie because sheâs not like other girls and Lizzie thinks Lane is hot. Their actions arenât believable and every single obstacle they face as a couple is contrived.

âWhat. Wait, I weigh too much-â
âOh please.â
âNo really- Iâm not one of those tiny little females-â
âExactly. Youâre a real woman.â He hit the stairs and kept going. âAnd thatâs what real men are attracted to. Trust me.â
The writing is just boring, the author doesnât like women and nothing even remotely interesting or surprising happens in this âmystery.â
I finished it as itâs the first book Iâve read this year, and that is the only reason. The sequel is âset up,â whereby nothing is resolved at the end of the book. I expect this is meant to keep you in suspense for the next book however I just felt annoyed, like sheâs forgotten to finish the story. You could probably combine the two books, pick out 45 chapters at random to delete and it would still make sense (this book is 50 chapters long).
The only redeeming quality is the multiple POVs because I couldnât stand to read 400 pages from either Lizzie or Laneâs POV. Theyâre utterly flat and boring characters. However in this story there are some POVs that are randomly introduced and completely unnecessary as they give no further insights to anyoneâs motivations.
Overall, a terrible read, donât waste your time.
