Needed more politicking honestly, probably my favorite parts of the book. Anyway, PROTECT THE REPUBLIC!

This book delivered on everything I was looking for: a believable Princess Leia, political intrigue and machinations, ideological divisions, and the seeds (just the seeds) of how it all broke down. I especially appreciated the narrative care given to talking about Leia's self-presentation in the political sphere and how she actually felt.

And, true to Star Wars form, there was an inevitability about the end that suited the inevitable tragedies of the film series.

I get that there are a lot of people who don't appreciate the official revocation of canon status on the EU, but this really is a great addition to the canon. It handles its intended subject matter well, with an appropriate amount of action for a story about political divides and the way the scars of our past impact our future.

if you’re struggling to get into this I can’t recommend the audiobook enough. The sound design, music and impressions are spot on and a lot easier to follow than most audiobooks in my opinion.

I really loved the story itself once it got going. I haven’t seen the Sequel films yet so there are a few things I’m sure I missed. I really got invested in the political world this built and all its characters. I’m excited to see which ones make it to screen.

If you aren't interested in the inter-personal connections and political landscape of the Star Wars universe, you likely won't be interested in this. However, if you want a compelling portrait of Leia Organa in her element as a badass diplomat, then this is certainly the book for you. To me, this story complicated the black and white narrative that Star Wars often operates under. It shows how victory is not easily won, alliances are not easily forged, and political reality is rarely actually realistic; it is a theatrical performance.

This is probably not a five star book (perhaps a four - it details the circumstances behind the political structures shown in The Force Awakens really well). But man, you guys, it was a tough week to find yourself in the middle of a Leia-centric Star Wars book.

This is by far the best Star Wars book I've read. The charactization of Leia is spot on, the new characters are interesting, and the story is so very involving and exciting. I have absolutely no complaints on this book, and look very forward to reading more Star Wars by Gray.
