I loved the idea of this book- a future time when, at a certain age, everyone undergoes heavy plastic surgery as well as a sort of lobotomy, to become beautiful and complacent. Young Tally, about to have her surgery, meets an eye-opening new friend and they decide to rebel. But- and this is entirely personal preference- sometimes futuristic settings give me the creeps. It's all the cute names for things and amazing inventions that have been invented and bleah. Bradbury does it well, Scott Westerfeld couldn't make it real for me.

I enjoyed the book, a quick an easy read. Probably a 4 star for teens; I would have enjoyed a little more depth, but the story engaged me enough to keep going with the series.

Science fiction written for an audience of young women?? Obsessed! Only wish I’d read this when I was 16

For some reason I really didn't want to read this book, but it kept popping up everywhere so I gave in. It started up just ehh, but from there it definitely picks up and is a very quick but good read.
