This was SO close to a 5 star but the ending was just slightly too anticlimactic for me. This was PHENOMENAL otherwise. The complexity and ingenuity of these characters from a standalone novel like this was insane. It felt like they had a life of their own. My jaw literally dropped several times while reading this… Freaking brilliant. Loved it.

I watched the movie back when it came out and I’ve gotta say, the book felt a little too long —Fincher nicked off just the necessary bits.
That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed the ride. She is probably the most deranged psychopath of her literary era. He’s your average awful guy. In more than a way, they deserve each other.
I’ve seen countless reviews bashing the ending, but it made sense to me.
Amy will always get what she wants and will manipulate her way to it regardless of consequences, and Nick is just incompetent enough as a human being to not put up a fight. They’re both terrible people in their own right and will be trapped in a mess of their own making for the foreseeable future. Poor kid, though.

What an intriguing thriller! Gone Girl made for an unputdownable, fast-paced, and twisty read! This was a tale of infidelity, manipulation, and obsession!  I love unreliable narrators, and the changing timelines/diary entries kept me guessing! The end was a little disappointing for me, but thats okay! Absolutely recommend, and now I've got a new auto-buy author!

God I forgot how freaking good this book is. It's very much dated, with the characters laid off magazine writers who lost their job to the internet and the 2008 crash, but the twists and turns are so good. The first half of the book alternates between the day Nick Dunne discovers his wife Amy has gone missing and her diary detailing the early days of their relationship. The second half is Nick, buckling under his secrets and police pressure, and Amy's own story of what happened that day. It reminds me of the Interrupter's song lyric "I'm a match, she's kerosene."

Yes, somehow 10 years later here I am reading Gone Girl for the first time. Haven't seen the movie either!

My reaction for most of the book: Am I supposed to be rooting for Nick? Honestly, I say good for Amy. This guy sucks.

My reaction for the last 70ish pages: Uh, maybe she IS actually crazy.

Overall, I enjoyed reading it. Although the ending left me feeling a bit unfulfilled. A solid 3/5 read.
