it took me over 2 years to finish this book for a couple of reasons.
 1. i'm a mood reader who got in a few reading slumps in the meantime and i find it hard to pick up a book again when i bc of random circumstances couldn't or didn't continue reading lately and i struggle with motivating myself to read longer books (over 300 pages). this is due to my personality.
2. i had already seen the movie and loved it but this also meant i knew the plot roughly so i didn't expect any twists or surprising factors, which of course took away a little motivation.
having said this, this is one of the most well-written books i've read. me having seen the movie and knowing what would happen was why i didn't have as much an urge to read it and find out (as i already knew everything), but if i hadn't known anything i would've finished it in a rather short amount of time i'm sure! it still managed to be enticing and suspenseful just because of how interesting its style was. the storyline is brutal and genius and morally challenging and in a way i'm happy i already knew what was awaiting bc of the film. i would recommend to read the book and the watch the movie or if you've seen the movie to still give the book a chance because owning this story on paper felt so special. if you considered reading it but think you don't have to because you know what happens, i would still say give it a try as gillian flynn's way with words totally made up for my prior knowledge.  gonna rewatch the movie now because what the fuck  (( almost all of the trigger warnings, please be careful with this and kind to yourself ))

 I hate to say this because this book was on my list for so long and I truly was enjoying myself so very much until I hit this part with a chapter from the perspective of Amy she had described two fat people in such a horrific way I annotated it how disappointed I was and that I truly thought that was the end of the road with me and this book. After sitting on it for a few days I have decided to DNF this book because of the verbiage used to depict characters of a bigger size. I was heartbroken reading this. It was downright fatphobic, harmful and absolutely unnecessary as these character were literally just filler, so it felt like an even bigger hit when Gillian chose to hit on that topic in a scene where it added nothing but a bad taste in my mouth. I guess it just goes to show just how casual fatphobia is and has become in our social environment. And I can't speak for you, but for me, for myself, my own sense of self and pride - I absolutely cannot forgive someone for writing characters that let's be honest, look like me, in such a wrenching way. Not to mention the characters she chose to shame had no big impact role in the story other than this hatred-spewing spiral she went on about "how dare a fat mushroom tummied person utilize the same resources as she does, how dare they be sitting down and fat, who knows if they're disabled but to hell with them!" Shame on you Gillian, shame on you.

If you want to read a toxic sociopathic petty drama fest, this is the book for you.

If the ever author ever makes a sequel, I sincerely hope it's about
their son
burning them alive and recording their dying screams of agony for a ringtone, because both Nick and Amy deserved a painful death, but Amy primarily.

Not gonna lie,
Amy
had me fool for the first third of the book, I felt truly sorry for both of them, I mean talk about tragic. But then the second third began and I understood that they truly deserve each other because of how they each feed the other worst side;
Nick is codependent child with daddy issues and Amy is a narcisist with mommy issues that still has beef with a fictional alterego and her seven unborn older sisters. Honestly, neither of them is fit to be a parent.

Go was always the voice of reason and Nick should have been fully honest from the start with her and heed her advice.

Also good ridance to the Elliots, those two should've never been parents and their seven unborn daughters dodged quite the bullet of having such passive-agressive a**hole of parents who wanted a robot, not a child. The irony of them being child psychologists who wrote those awful Amazing Amy books, which I bet my life did more harm than they ever did good to a whole generation.
This is also the only point I concede to Amy, her parents not only built an empire on her back, but also inmortalized every little dissapointment and failure so that she could never forget them.
