I liked this book in the beginning and had hopes for it until the end. It was not the story that let me down. The gender switched world is well thought up and the plot is an entertaining spin on a Victorian love adventure book. The Characters are a bit one dimensional especial the male protagonist who is a Gary-Stu.

But my main problem is the subtext. I get that in historic literature overdue ideas might come up, but it is the responsibility of the author to mark them as such for the modern reader. In this book the heroes of the story call others out for breeding too much and are putting an intolerable importance in purity and ancestry.
I still give the author the benefit of the doubt and might read another book of her, to check if this was just a fluke or a trend in her writing, which was otherwise quite entertaining.
