This book touches on a lot of dark topics, but it remains very hopeful and lighthearted.

KITT IS DISABLED! As a cane-user it was so exciting to stumble upon this book!
Spoiler Kit was injured on a heist a year before the book starts. We see him grapple with the loss of mobility and slowly come to terms with the change.

This was laugh out loud funny at parts (def recommend the audiobook for the voice acting and right delivery). MLM, Kitt’s queer awakening. Witty banter! Percy figuring out how to be a “normal” person is hilarious. Engaging plot besides the romance, a little mysterious at parts.

A funny, grumpy x sunshine about two men who meet unexpectedly. I loved the banter between Kit and Percy and how their romance evolved over time. I especially appreciated the perspective of Kit, a bisexual man being with a man for the first time. I read this via audiobook and it was great! Kit is also living with chronic pain due to an injury he sustained in battle. I really liked his character and how he grew throughout the book to unpack his internalized ableism and learned how to live with his disability. However, there is constant use of the c-word, an ableist slur.

I really enjoyed this! I only found out about it because I had seen the sequel in a book store, and then I only read it because it fulfilled my "Q" prompt for a challenge where I was trying to read books with titles for every letter of the alphabet. The plot is pretty interesting, with a few twists, and the romance actually feels very healthy and natural. The tension comes from external factors rather than miscommunication, the two male leads actually communicate very well and have a good understanding of each other. It was quite refreshing! The side characters are also charming and have clear personalities. If you're looking for a mlm historical romance, I highly recommend this one. I'll definitely be reading the sequel.

I've desperately enjoyed some of Cat Sebastian's other books like Hither, Page (an all-time fave) AND I'm a history major with a great love for this time period, so I'm not quite sure what didn't grab me about this one.

It's a good time, the characters are great, and the plot is interesting on paper, but I think another review nailed it for me - everyone's just so NICE. Which is great, good for them, but this cast deserves to be a little more intense! To go OFF. Maybe the stakes just didn't feel high or intense enough for what's supposed to be a pretty emotionally charged heist?

But all that aside, it's a fun queer historical romance romp and I really did get attached to the cast, so 3⭐️.
