2. 5 stars that I can't round down to 2, but giving it a 3 would be, in my opinon, too generous.
This book is among the favorites of a close friend, and I was super excited to read it. And honestly, I can see how and why she loved it. It has the angst, the bickering, the steam. However, it is not really the story I had issue with. It was the writing.
Personally, there was too much "show" and not enough "tell". The auhtor goes out of her way to explain every relationship to the reader: relations, backstories, best friends. Motives. I would've preferred to see those things explored differently, by giving the characters time to interact with eachother and for readers to see the connection between them. Or hate.
All in all, I am very sorry I didn't enjoy this book as I wanted to, especially because I know how much someone close to me loves it. Sadly, it wasn't a book for me, but I am glad I've read it.

Omg I love this book so much!!!! Elena and Dante are 🤌🏽💋 chef's kiss.
I loved how we were introduced to both characters and that you don’t really get their whole back story right away. Because as you learn more about this dark yet charming capo, his actions make so much sense. And as you learn more about Elena and how she grew up, it’s not a shock to see why she acts the way she does. I would 100% fight her entire family for her.Idc that her sister and ex are a better match, the fact that they cheated 🤮🤢🤮 I would be so fucking cruel to them that they wished they never stepped foot in NY again I am a ride or die for these two and I’m so excited to read the second book.
4/5 on the spicy scale. The dirty talk was immaculate in this book. I really think my favorite scene was the masturbation scene, when Dante put his cum on her lips 🥵🥵🥵🥵 goddamn was that dirty and sexy .
