Very cute. A simple book with a great lean towards imagining. Much better suited for younger kids.

Text was ok. I think the rhyming took away from the story. The illustrations are pretty and remind me of old fashioned illustrations (think [b:Prayer for a Child|1479055|Prayer for a Child|Rachel Field|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1364480735s/1479055.jpg|712947])

The words here are not the most successful, but the gorgeous illustrations more than compensate. The text doesn't flow well and the words are long and hard to pronounce for kids. But boy is this a gorgeous book.

I don't know, the language was a little off-putting to me. I like the ideas it conveyed, and the illustrations were fine.

I was ready not to like this one, because I have this perception of Martin as an author/artist who writes for hipsters, but I enjoyed it well enough. It wasn't amazing -- books that celebrate the wonders of imagination tend to lack much of a storyline, because it's just a bunch of variations on the "Imagination is super-awesome!!!" sentiment. But I liked how one spread showed a (hipster) child in a relatively mundane setting, and then a page turn showed the same child in a much cooler imagined scenario. For all of my griping, I thought the illustrations were pleasing, and I think it would probably circulate relatively well.

Beautiful artwork, loved the rhyming scheme.
Probs best for reading adult to child. A little too whimsical for storytime.
