This story exemplifies that you don’t need a huge epic narrative to make the audience feel something for your cast of characters. In light of reading Mistborn, it was kind of refreshing to spend time and learn about each character. The foreshadowing in the novel maybe isn’t the best ever, but it is definitely a solid groundwork for aspiring writers, and as this is my first re-read, the foreshadowing left me in my tracks a few times.

Overall, Of Mice and Men is probably one of the easiest classics to read, and is a solid example of foreshadowing and characterization. If you’re itching for other stories similar to this, I’d recommend The Green Mile

[12/18/2o19] - I now regret reading ahead because every time we read an adorable Lennie scene... I'm just dying inside because I know what's coming. I literally have tissues in my pencil case because I'm preparing myself for when we read the final scene in class

This has all the things I love and hate about American literature. What I loved was that Steinbeck writes brief descriptions that flood your mind with a visual, dialogue that tells you a great deal about people, and foreshadowing so engrossing you don't see it happening. What I hate? No one is going to live happily ever after. That said, worth the read, at a concise 105 pages or so.
