I usually love Lisa Jewell's books, but this lost something because of the three timelines (best described as Before, During and After). In Before, we learn about the major characters and their motivations, then there's During, describing what happens on the night that Tallulah and Zach disappear, and After, the search to figure out what happened exactly. Two of the POVs were involved (one being Tallulah and the other her mother) and one is very removed, relegated to the After part with Sophie helping uncover the truth of the disappearance.
Perhaps because of this, the main characters are flat and not well-rounded. To be honest, the only one that felt at all real was Kim, Tallulah's mother, as she moves through the three timelines. The ending is also really implausible and any suspended belief was lost.

An enjoyable book with a very predictable plot. If only this book had a twist it would be perfect. Overall a good read!
