I didn't finish it, it finished me (after 131 pages). I am too empathetic to read more. And I am so utterly disgusted. No words.

Started American Psycho about a month ago just as NZ was going on lockdown. "Best find something gripping and easy to read, so as to pass the time better," I thought. I loved the movie and I remember the Ellis phase I had in my early twenties fondly, so American Psycho seemed to fit the bill.
Boy was I wrong.
When complaining to a friend of mine, he mentioned that he thinks writers like Ellis (like Murakami,or like Palahniuk) often click very well with readers of a certain life phase – their appeal falls right off after. I think he's right. And so I am giving up on this book BECAUSE THERE AIN'T ENOUGH TIME IN LIFE TO DALLY ON.

Lost interest. Too many descriptions of things I have no idea about which is part of the point I suppose but I just can't get into it.

Tbh I don't think I really got the ending, and it was just so gross, I didn't feel the payoff was that worth it. If I watch a video essay I'll probably take this review back haha.

Nothing short of supremely fucked up, but I couldn’t put it down.
