Mr. Karen and I listened to this on our road trip; when we got to New Orleans, it was fun to see things there that had been mentioned in the book, and after we left the city it was fun to hear about the characters being in some of the same places. My theory about who did it turned out to be true but there were a lot of twists and turns to get to that point.

Good but wearing

Julie Smith did a great just job with the book. I was hooked fairly quickly. I didn't rate it higher because of the main character, Skip Langdon. She can be annoying and neurotic. We all know people like this so the author hit the mark with this one, but it was just wearing.

This wasn't bad, overall. I liked Skip Langdon, but she was also really whiny a lot of the time. Why can't a strong female character actually be strong? The neuroses is rather annoying.

So, it was good, but I felt like the author didn't know where she was going sometimes. The end seemed to come out of nowhere; there was a lot of build-up, and then it was just over.

Maybe I'm just not a murder mystery reader.

I'm not rating this one because it wouldn't be fair. I made it less than 10% into the book.

Perhaps I don't have enough interest about New Orleans, or care enough about the Mardi Gras history or events, but not even the characters introduced captured my attention enough to continue.

Sorry........

Clearly, books featuring mixed-up alcoholic depressed rich people are Not My Thing. Seeing as I felt like slapping all the characters upside the head for most of the book. Including the protagonist.

Your mileage may vary, of course.
