So much promise with the most disappointing stupidest ended I’ve ever read.

I cried the entire 70% of the book then stopped? It was really really good but the end got kinda cheesy and ruined it for me…otherwise it would have been 5 stars. BUT it was very cute and memorable!

Okay full disclosure I didn’t like Beach Read so much, but BookTok has done it again and after seeing Happy Place about 1000 times on my FYP, recommended by people whose taste I somewhat trust, I caved. I’m glad I did because I enjoyed reading this immensely. A good quality romcom that isn’t sappy or cheesy, with dialogues that did not make me cringe - check. Enjoying a romance novel this much hasn’t happened to me since I was a teen reading YA romance (in which case sappy and cheesy was the entire point). Very fun and good character development, with relationships that feel authentic. Loved it.

Not a fan of the HEAVY use of the miscommunication trope in this one.... Literally so many problems could have been resolved peacefully if the characters could communicate with one another even a tiny bit. Also, I was disappointed by the ending. I felt that Harriet gave up on her dreams a little too easily. I also thought that the reasons for her and Wynn's breakup at the beginning of the novel were valid and did not really get addressed by the end of the book in order to justify them getting back together. Despite these negatives, I do enjoy Emily Henry's style of writing and this novel was still super entertaining.

Should you read this book?
Yes, if… you want an adult growing up story with lovable side characters, a great MMC, and fun banter
No, if… you can’t stand the miscommunication/letting someone go because you think it’s what they want trope

Based on the premise of this book, I was not expecting to like this so much. But as I got to know the characters more and their relationships with each other more, I grew so attached that I just loved them too much. My heart was physically aching as everyone was trying to figure out their problems. And Wyn and Harriet were so frustrating, but I also understood both their sides and how much they wanted to protect each other. I just. I actually felt way too much with this.
