I read this in tandem with Tower of Dawn. It seemed to be a common shared perception that the tandem read (linked below) is the best way to enjoy these books. From the perspective of this book, I think it did help.

This book is extremely fast-paced and plot heavy, so dispersing the other book in between gave time for things to absorb instead of just moving on to the next.

I think they are some character inconsistencies in this book that yield on the side of saving well-known characters as opposed to allowing the characters to acted as described. This is not a cut throat series and the results of this book honestly seem to lower the stakes going into the final stretch.

The world building I also feel needs a little bit of work. The relationship shop between the gods and the fae and the humans are so blurred and undefined. More established boundaries and a little more of the history of the world I think would be extremely helpful.

Although not the main focus, there were some beautiful character moments at different moments that really pulled on the heart strings.

Aelin is such a bad ass. The strategy, the mystery, the building of hope, and the absolute devastation. Ahhhh I’m not ready for TOG to end

This book feels more mature than the preceding ones which I appreciate, but it also drags on forever.

I found the first half a bit slow compared to the other books and put it down and picked it up a couple times. But the last 150-200 pages had me HOOKED, could NOT put the book down. Also finally that well written SJM spice that we all love from ACOTAR shows it’s face!
Spoiler I hated in previous books that all the characters had separate journeys with just too much dramatic irony BUT THEY ALL CONVERGE!

Okay, so this might also be my favourite of the series too. This book broke me, and I knew it would as it did when I first read it, was I expecting to cry so much that my throat felt like it was being crushed too? No ✌🏻

There’s just so much in this book, so much drama, personality and hope. God. It hurts my soul.

Also particularly loved this quote:

"You will find, Rolfe, that one does not deal with Celaena Sardothien. One survives her."

TWs: War themes, graphic depictions of violence and gore
