I wanted to love this book, since I've enjoyed other books by this author, but it didn't move fast enough for me. It didn't hook me.

I really enjoyed this book, but why was nearly every character so unlikeable? There were psychologically damaged people around every corner, and the twist was just weird!!!

I got confused a lot about who was who. I was certain, for an extremely long time, that the character in a coma was one person, but it turned out to be another. And how did she come to that point?

It felt like a very dreary, depressing state of affairs. I still was gripped, but if life was like this, I wouldn’t want to be part of it.

It was fine but there were glaring errors that annoyed me.

First off, there is not a way in hell that a classroom assistant would have one to one sessions with a child after school alone?? That is literally insane lol. No school would allow this it’s ridiculous and took me out of it a bit.

Also at the end with Toni being allowed to see Harriet’s mother’s dead body upstairs?? No police officer would be like ‘yeah u just go right on up there buddy!!’ That is just not plausible at all.

Toni’s character was well written and I do like the elements of ‘can we trust her? Is she losing it?’ They were subtle and well done but the whole second half of the book was a bit rough tbh.

If authors could stop subheading their books with "a psychological thriller with a killer twist" when their twist is just a product of lazy writing, we'd all be so much happier. You can't spent a whole book misleading the reader and then call the pieces falling in place a twist. There need to be clues, something that'll make you wonder how on earth you could have missed this, not a sudden turn without any kind of logic.

I'm about to give up on this author. She's made some great books and was for a while on my list of favourite authors, but lately all her work has disappointed me.

I listened to this as an audiobook on Audible. If you have a membership, it’s included! This is my third book by Slater and she’s quickly becoming one of my favorites. This book was INSANE. I had no idea what to think the entire time. She is amazing at building suspense. It’s a trend in the books I’ve read by her that they jump around timeline wise and POVs but I really enjoy it and fine it easy to follow. This book is super quick paced and had me hooked from the start.

This was probably one of my least favorite K.L. Slater books so far. It just felt like it was dragging, and then got just almost TOO far fetched, even for a fiction story.

I like the suspense and twists her books normally have and as usual, Lucy Price-Lewis was perfect in her narration.

Read it in one day. Excellent story. Several credible suspects, and a nice twist at the end. Very pleased I read this!

this is a fantastic read!! i selected this on a whim and it was everything i could have hoped for.

this story blends the past and present day, has great character development, and just when i thought i had these ladies all sorted out, i was wrong!

after getting 1/3 of the way through i began recommending this book to my mom and girlfriends, after finishing this i am now urging everyone who enjoys suspenseful mysteries to add this to their lost.
