Excellent story in the Brother Cadfael series. A monk who is trying to atone for something he did when younger is badly injured, confesses to having given herbs from Cadfael's collection to procure an abortion with his girlfriend, which then kills her. He thinks that this is a deathbed confession, but he lives. He goes on a pilgrimage as part of his penance and what he finds out changes his life.

I'm so glad I read this series. This is the last of the Patrick Tull narrated audiobooks. I do own a few dead-tree editions that aren't on audio, so I'll probably read those when I get a chance (a lot harder to find the time for a book you can't read while also driving/cooking). In the meantime, I highly recommend this entire cozy series!
Audiobook narrator Patrick Tull also deserves 5 stars.

This is my favorite series. I love Ellis Peters’ writing, the character of Brother Cadfael, and the narration of Patrick Tull. I wish the remaining 5 books were available with Patrick Tull’s narration.

Interesting enough. Not a very satisfying or complex story, but I'm open to exploring the series.
