I was given an advanced copy of this from @netgalley past the publication date, so I had to squeeze it in. Plus, this type of book needs time and thought, to fully appreciate it!
I've only read one other @ruthchousimons book, but have followed her on social media for a long time. I'll definitely need a hard copy of this because I didn't get all the gorgeous artwork on the digital ARC.
This is a great book for anyone struggling with the season of life they are in, and honestly who isn't at some point! But anyone and everyone can get something out of it, learning to trust God and becoming content in all circumstances! I'm doing a study on both James and Hebrews and getting lots of meat (not milk), and this definitely worked well with both of those. It was meaty and had a lot of truth to learn from.
As stated I was approved after publication, so it's already available for you to purchase, for yourself, your friend, your neighbor, and anyone else you can think of! ☺️

This is brilliant and real and I love how relatable she keeps the content. It’s a part of hard seasons that isn’t talked about much in church spaces. Some of the chapter pieces felt repetitive but there are really practical reframings and reminders in here that keep it solid with Scripture in mind. Although, I will admit a book like this would probably super annoy me to read if I was going through a tough season at the moment :) it’s great of in-between as a way to prepare

I accidentally agreed to join an evangelical book club bc I glossed over the details and honed in on the fact that it met at an indoor playground for my toddler to join lol… anyway, I figured I’d try the book and gloss over the God stuff and maybe I’d still get something out of it. I’m sure this book could help someone, but I can honestly say that I do not want to fast forward any part of my life and while I may not enjoy each individual day, there are always moments of joy. So I’m choosing to DNF bc I don’t think the overall point of the book will apply to me.

Everyone has experiences of feeling like their life will never change. Transitional periods between life stages, jobs, and relationships seem to drag on forever. Suffering feels like it will never end. A more fulfilling, meaningful life remains just out of reach. In this book, Ruth Chou Simons shares honestly about her own experiences with waiting periods and disappointment, and she shares biblical truths to encourage other women who feel stuck. She validates how difficult these feelings are, and she explores themes about waiting through the details of familiar Bible stories. Each chapter concludes with a key truth (e.g., "You don't have to be blooming to be growing"), and offers a written prayer for dealing with related struggles. The author's art also appears at intervals throughout the book, and the book has a very attractive design.

This book will help Christian women wrestle through their difficult feelings in a constructive way. Chou Simons creates space for truly reflecting on and acknowledging how hard and frustrating life can be, but she also gently nudges her readers forward, helping them see God's eternal work in their mundane, everyday lives. In one chapter, she writes, "Who you want to become won't just happen by default. You're shaped one day, one decision, one ordinary moment at a time. It's the boring, everyday faithful stuff that makes a life." She encourages readers to make the most of the season they are currently in, instead of rushing to the next thing or scorning the character-building purposes of their struggles. She also challenges readers to change the stories they tell themselves, looking for God's goodness in their present circumstances instead of embracing an attitude of defeat.

This book is full of wisdom for living an honorable, faithful Christian life in the midst of disappointment and hardship. Even though there is nothing groundbreaking or new that the author can say, her solid biblical teaching, disarming honesty, and realistic advice will refresh many discouraged readers. My only critique is that the book felt longer than it needed to be. This might have packed an even greater punch with shorter chapters and fewer overlapping themes, but it's still very powerful. Overall, I was impressed this book, and I would recommend it.

I received a free copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This book hit the right note of what I was looking for when feeling like I’m in a season where I am tired of trying. While more oriented toward entrepreneurs than for infertility, I found most of the stories to be relatable and I really enjoyed the cadence at which she brought in scripture stories (not just single line verses). I walked away from this book feeling more grounded, more trusting in what god has for me in this ‘in between’ season of discipline, and to not waste this time wanting another time. I have a feeling I’ll come back to this book.
