description

Spine-tingling and nail-bitingly magical, a dark and fierce take on the future of Oz. The cover is simple yet beautiful and self-explanatory, dark and gruelling it becomes incredibly intriguing.

Amy Gumm is just a normal girl living in Kansas, not the most popular she prefers to keep to herself. Though when she is driven to the edge with her mothers behaviour, a tornado soon wipes through Kansas depositing Amy into the Land of Oz. Though once a happy and magical place, Amy soon discovers the sweet and innocent girl who everyone once loved has now become the Wicked and the Wicked have become the Good. Soon Amy is picked up by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked who soon put Amy to use, with a mission that only she can accomplish. To kill Dorothy.

"A chill shot down my spine as I remembered that things were never easy around here. Good and evil were always changing places with each other."
Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige, Paperback page 252

Amy Gumm was an intelligent and witty character who was fun and interesting to read about. She wasn't one to depend on others as she continuously tried her hardest, never just giving in; she always had good intentions in mind. My favourite character had to be Pete, from the very beginning he was mysterious and unpredictable, his movements and opinions could never be justified and he always left you more confused than ever.

"You reminded me that there was still Good here. Even if it was just the promise of Good"
Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige, Paperback page 389

The character who intrigued me the most was Dorothy herself, though we are told about her past, her true motives are still concealed. I am looking forward to learning more about her past, but most importantly 'why?'.

"So now sunlight was dictated by the condition of Dorothy's skin. Perfect."
Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige, Paperback page 330

The plot was full-to-the-brim of action and adventure, alongside violence and some gruesome scenes of which are far from the perfect image of Oz. Danielle Paige did a truly brilliant job of bringing the Land of Oz to life, the imagery and descriptive language was flawless as I found myself continuously imagining the events and scenes.

An incredibly engaging and on-your-seat thriller that continuously kept you guessing, Danielle Paige executed Dorothy Must Die perfectly, especially with that ending! I just have no words to explain my emotions right now, except that I need the sequel now! (And I need to see the cover soon.)

A retelling of a classic story: I’ll admit, I never watched Wizard of Oz. But reading this book, now I want to. Paige took a classic story that almost everyone is familiar with and took it to a whole new level.
Familiar characters mixed among news ones: With Paige, we see a different, more sinister side, of Dorothy, The Scarecrow, The Lion, and the Tin-Man. We see them in a way we could never imagine while growing up with the story we all knew. Then Paige mixes them in with Amy and the rest that she meets in The Order. The similarities between Amy and Dorothy were well written and believable.

Interesting spin on the Wizard of Oz stories. I just can't buy in to the fact that they could all turn that bad: Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and the Lion?!!

This book is so twisted.I mean Dorothy is wicked? Huh? In what world is this? Oh yeah the new OZ, as in Dorothy's OZ. Amy is like Dorothy she some how finds herself in Oz. But Oz isn't like what she has read or like in the movie. She is told she is the hope for Oz. And she must kill Dorothy. Amy is unsure if she can do this, but as some time goes by she realizes she can and will. Looking forward to book #2.

I enjoyed this book pretty well. There was way more swearing than I care for. And I thought the main character was kind of shallow and one dimensional. But I liked it well enough that I will read the next one!

Great book, a different take on the same story, but not dull or over extended! LOVED this book!

I enjoyed this more than I thought, and I cannot wait to continue with series! Amy Gumm is amazing and so full of sass, and the cast of characters is diverse and fun.

I did not like the writing style, I disliked the MC and some of the plot strategies, too much “pick me girl” and “I’m not like other girls” attitude for me to keep going. And in the end it wasn’t enjoyable.
