I really enjoyed the story. It was very exciting. The only reason I didn't enjoy the book more was because of the excessive swearing. Way to many f-words for my taste.

This book took me a little longer to get into than previous books written my Robert Dugoni; but once I was into it the reading was easy. I can’t wait to read the next one. This also makes me want to go and read the Charles Jenkins series :). Onward.

First line: "Philip Ferguson set his Ruger over-under shotgun on the kitchen table and felt for the stock of the Remington Wingmaster."

In the first novel of the David Sloane series, [b:The Jury Master|215669|The Jury Master (David Sloane, #1)|Robert Dugoni|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1344268962s/215669.jpg|2650785], you learn to love David Sloane... he is a phenomenal lawyer and an amazing person, or character as it were.

In this novel, I felt like I took my admiration for him...and was left shocked and amazed at his skills, both his skills on an investigational level and his skills in the court room.

I really don't want to give any of this story line away, cause it's absolutely amazing... I was hooked the entire way..trying to figure out all these plot twists as they were coming up to find out what was really going on... it left me speechless in places, and was simply incredible.

But nevertheless, I will say this... you start the novel thinking, how is he going to win this case? How is Sloane going to get anywhere with this type of evidence? And then you start getting into all these sketchy occurrences and you're like DAMN, this guy is good... cause he gets everything he's looking for...but in such a way that it just seems to fall altogether in the best way possible.

I also want to say that the subject of this book was very touching to me, and I found myself reading with tears streaming down my cheeks at the horrible injustice these families must have felt. Although, I haven't personally been touched in this sense, I can only begin to imagine how difficult it must be for a family to lose a loved one during a war.

All I can is that in the course of the last four novels I have read by Robert Dugoni, I have fallen in love with his writing and am definitely looking forward to indulging myself in more of his work!

Beverly Ford's husband, James, was killed in Iraq while serving a tour of duty there. But Beverly has reason to believe that his death was not a normal service-connected death, and she hires attorney David Sloane to defend her claim against incredible odds.

Even Sloane isn't convinced he can win the case initially, but as he and his former CIA operative turned private investigator friend dig deeper into the case, they learn that Ford's death may indeed have been non-combat related. The deeper Sloane digs, the more threatened are those involved in the case. Soon the men who survived the ambush that killed James Ford are dying even though they're safely back at home, and Ford's commander, now a wheelchair user as a result of the ambush, doesn't want to talk about what happened. He has gone to work for a private contractor, and the stakes are increasingly high. Ultimately, even Sloane's new wife and son are endangered as a result of his decision to take the case.

This is an intense book that will keep you turning up the speed in your audio book player just to find out what happens next. The narration is perfectly matched to the book. Dan John Miller does a splendid job of moving you through the streets of Iraq, into Mexico, and down narrow dirt roads in a small Washington state town in a race against ruthless killers who will stop at nothing to protect secrets Sloane will inevitably dig up if he can't be stopped.

Dugoni's books are so readable and the characters interesting. This was a wonderful sequel to the Jury Master. Can't wait to read the third book in the series.

I received this book from the Goodreads giveaways, and really enjoyed it. It's not a genre I typically read, but I wish I had read this one sooner. It was a quick, easy read and it kept me in suspense until the end. I would definitely read more from Robert Dugoni in the future. My thanks to Goodreads and Simon & Shuster.
