Very helpful to read the Book of Mormon formatted as a book. Hardy does an excellent job with layout and subheads. Indispensable appendixes too.

Really enjoyed this study edition of a religious text. Grant Hardy has organized this with careful attention and thought.

(Rating for this edition, not the text itself.) The footnotes were occasionally enlightening with textual variants, but mostly mundane. The real game changer here is the formatting: bolding words that are quoted/parallel to other scriptures; formatting poetry in verse; giving sections of chapters informative titles; paragraphs and quotation marks, for goodness sake! These simple formatting changes made comprehending and navigating the text so effortless. And I could easily tell where to end our family's reading of a section at a natural sense-break without pre-reading. I have to say, I will find it hard to go back to any other version of the Book of Mormon.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT A REVIEW OF THE BOOK OF MORMON, BUT GRANT HARDY'S EDITING AND FORMATTING!

I am always looking for new ways to study The Book of Mormon, and Grant Hardy's Reader's Edition sounded interesting. He puts the text back into paragraph form, breaking things according to literary convention, and adds quotation marks when appropriate. When the writing lends itself to poetical form, he puts it into stanzas. There are some helpful footnotes, and an excellent series of appendixes. I expected that the differences would stand out and keep me focused on the scriptures, but my mind quickly got used to the new format and drifted just as often as usual. Still, that's a fault of mine, not Hardy's. I do think this is a valuable addition to the canon of BoM study aids.

I love the formatting of this edition of the Book of Mormon. It makes the text feel more contemporary and makes reading it more enjoyable. When I'm preparing my Sunday school lesson I read this edition first to get a good overview of the events, then go back and look at the footnotes in the standard edition. Another nice thing about this edition is the font size and opacity of the paper. The bleed through of the standard editions is starting to drive me nuts.
