i feel like this was really good but could have been so much better with more backstory. i'd love to see what life was like before so i can get a better sense of the characters and to fall more in love with them but, overall, a pretty good story.

In a world conquered by aliens, Colleen learns how to rebel and love. Really, really good.

A brilliant book with fantastic art. It felt live a very real presentation of an invaded/occupied place, with very real characters. There are stretches where there isn't any dialogue during conversations, letting the illustrations tell the story. It's a very effective technique, and helped move the story along.

If I have a criticism, it's the relationship between Jannbo and Ridley. It felt poorly developed and like it should've been interesting but wasn't.
That's all, aside from that, this was a beautiful book with fantastic art.

Pretty standard dystopian story, nothing too terrible but nothing particularly great either. There was a lot of awkward exposition dialogue in the beginning that was kind of cringy to read, but that was mostly at the very beginning. A quick and easy read, and I don't regret reading it despite it being kind of meh. Also I did really like the art, so I'm more hyped now to read more of Molly Ostertag's stuff.

Honestly, not my cup of tea. I love Molly's artwork, and it didn't let me down, but story itself didn't do a whole lot for me. Maybe it's because I didn't really buy into the romance of it (), or maybe it's because the story arc ultimately felt a little predictable — I'm not sure!
Spoiler
I got pretty tired of Jann's repeated protestations about their romance because of class — like, you're living in apocalyptic times, class is a thing of the pastcook_memorial_public_library's review against another edition
