Nye’s word carry a meditative authority similar to that of her mentor William Stanford— just much less nature poetry. She is able to tackle quaint human relations as well as loftier topics such as politics and war. a poet to be respected, and an important voice in the world.

I took my time with this one so it'd last longer -- I've been looking forward to Nye's poetry for a while. Nye contemplates language, utilizing it as a subject matter to investigate the ways we might choose to navigate experiences, memories, and history. Her poems swing gently between light-heartedness and something sharper, resulting in a gorgeous and engaging collection.

Her language is so intimate and smooth. I felt every poem wash over me in a way that's like the title, like fuel. Needless to say, I really enjoyed this collection.
