One of my favorite series as a kid! For a year I was even signed up with scholastic where I received the whole series in paperback and got to do little fun crafts and things. :) I've watched COUNTLESS episodes with my mother and had fun comparing the books to the show. This series will always hold a special place in my heart.

I think I enjoyed this book a bit more than the previous one. I'm just not that into historical fiction.

This book has more racial tension and incidents than I remember. Some individual quotes are racist, but the overall takeaway is complex and rooted in a particular time and place. Main characters are on a spectrum of racial sensitivity. Seems realistic to me.

I really enjoy finally getting to read this series. This book would work great in a 3/4 grade classroom.
