WOW!!!

Bit of a roller coaster with this one!

To start, I was very bored. It took me a long while to get into this. But around 130 pages it hooked me.

I loved the development, the characters, softening and becoming friends. Her trials, how she got through them. It was great!

Then the ending. Love and hate it.

Woo she's actually a rebel and true heir to the throne.

But then... she knew the whole time? She lied to everyone? How can she mad at Jaren when she also did the exact same thing?

It also doesn't really make sense. The book is HER pov. We see her questioning things about the rebel queen, having her thoughts about the rebels, what she thinks of the rebellion.

Then in the end HA its all be a lie. What? Even your OWN THOUGHTS???

It's kind of made me a little sad that all this development isn't real.

This is the first book in a 3 book series. There was a lot of set up. Honestly not a ton happened until the last part when it picked up. I liked it enough to go onto the second one but it wasn’t an amazing read. Curious to see where the series goes!

You know it's a good book when you still lay in bed, trying to put it away and failing miserably. Even if you know that the next morning you need to wake up early.
I couldn't put it down before reading some chapters more, trying to figure out the outcome of the first installement of the books.
Kiva (the female) lead is not naïve, she knows what she needs to do to stay alive.

She is brave and hopeful.

Being in a prison with the worst inmates and guardians, you would think she would stay put down and wait to be rescued by someone, anyone.

She does, until she has to put her life in danger to save the Rebel Queen.
If she succeeds in the four elemental trials, she will be liberated with the Rebel Queen and leave Zalindov behind.

I won't spoil the story. So you need to read it .

Do not begin with the last page. THAT will spoil so much of it.

Know that there is romance, action, intrigue and a female lead with secrets that unravel slowly but surely.
