Absolutely incredible. Madeline Miller single-handedly wove a beautiful story that tore my heart apart and put it back together again. There aren’t enough words to describe how well written and conveyed this novel is. I can’t wait to devour it again.

Oh, what to say that hasn’t already been said.

Loved the imagery, sincerity, and vulnerability of the story. I particularly enjoyed the first half of the story as we see them grow up and fall in love with each other. That part moved quickly and held my attention. As we moved into the second half, I became less invested.
Spoiler Achilles became a petulant child who lost all the depth he’d earned throughout the story, which is perhaps the point. Patroclus is his faithful keeper, who lost all self identity when they met and died protecting a child’s vision of importance and immortality only to be stuck again when he is tossed aside and forgotten. Only to be remembered by one who despises him and having his fate in her hands. Of course they get the happy ever after though.

This book was a slow start but once it got Achilles introduced I was captivated. And it just kept getting better and playing out every scene in my head while reading brought them to life. This was very well written and the characters were so interesting. Even after Protroclus died, he still narrated and the ending with Thetis brought me to tears.
I finished this in a short period of time because I am a fast reader that frequently reads. But I considered this a slow read because of how long it felt. Each page you had to pay attention and digest. The language was something you also had to adjust to. In all this was a medium read.
