This was such a good book! I went in guarded because I've heard so much praise about it and didn't want to be disappointed but it delivered 100%

Bear in mind sa is often referenced and toward the end there is a kind of vivid paragraph but all in all absolutely great!

I HATE IT BUT I LOVE IT

I am so so so frustrated at this book
why the fuck would somebody write this
I don't understand
HOW CAN YOU HURT MY FEELINGS LIKE THIS
I mean you would have to be a psychopath to write a book like this
YES THIS IS AN INSULT MADELINE MILLER

I will never get over this
but you know
it stole a piece of my heart now
and I can never get that back
so I have no choice than to love this book

I want to have the ashes buried with me, so we can be reunited in the underworld

patroclus and achilles, I'd like to say to you guys that I loved you, and I hope you guys are enjoying your life in the underworld, if you know what I mean ;)

oh yes and btw

OH AND PYRRHUS
I mean I don't want to literally fuck them obviously

go read this book
"go, he waits for you"
*pun intended*

I'll go back to screaming my lungs out now

The hype around this book is exaggerated...
The writing is beautiful and accessible, so it's easy to read in very few sittings. However, the story only revolves around the relationship between Achilles and Patroclus. I'm not a Greek mythology geek nor have I read the Iliad, yet I wish this novel had a bit more of historical contextualisation.
There was also a little detail that really irked me, pertaining to a certain prophecy... like, Patroclus heard the prophecy about the best of the Myrmidons dying and when Briseis called him that, wouldn't he be expected to connect the dots?? I still though to myself, "Ok, he's going to his death willingly", but not once in his narration does he indicate that. Given he was so obsessed with Achilles, wouldn't he keep in mind every prophecy Thetis brought to them? Oh wait, only those related to Achilles...

I enjoyed the beginning more than the ending - Achilles’ descent into pride conflicted with the tenderness of his character. The relationship was the most beautiful part of the story. The war plot stalled and disappointed. Achilles’ son being such a horrid human - and the tragedy of Achilles and boo (not even gonna try to remember how to spell his name) being kept apart at the end was emotional. Overall, I enjoyed it and I’d read more by this author. But far from exceptional.

One of the most beautifully written books I’ve read, while simultaneously be one of the ones to break my heart the most intensely! I loved every moment of this book. It’s become my favorite version of this myth.
