As a fan of Alaska reality television shows (especially The Deadliest Catch) I was eager to read this advanced reader's copy from Netgalley about a woman who comes to Alaska to escape her tormented old life and find herself. A cousin sets her up with a job at fish processor but she has to scramble to eke out accommodations. As expected, Alaska life is rugged and harsh and filled with a cast of eccentrics. This is a terrific book about a young woman's personal journey in search of self acceptance.

One young woman's fight to reclaim her self in the "wilds" of Alaska. Well written, easy to read; completely believable characters. LOVED this book!

For much of this novel it felt like the main character was, or ought be, older than her eighteen years. Then the letters to and from her boyfriend brought her swiftly back into teenage territory. If it hadn’t been so well written I think I would have given up on reading this. As it was, I stuck with it, through the dramas, only to reach the end and the “all that for this?” moment. I’m still wondering what Tara would do which speaks to my point about it being well written.

Saw someone on a plane reading this. Got chatting and it sounded interesting.

I really enjoyed the book. I love the setting just as much as the characters. It's an easy read, but I felt transported into the world of Alaskan fishing every time I picked up the book.

If you day dream of running away to Alaska for the year you'll enjoy this book.
