Beware! This book contains red herrings, nasty people, people with good motives but bad judgement, and so forth. That's nothing new with an Agatha Christie mystery. What is unusual is the clear, fine threading of details. It's less about painting pictures of views, mansions, upstairs-downstairs inhabitants and more about making clarity out of chaos.

Holy cow! I'm just tickled pink that I guessed so early in the book who did it, how it had been done, and why. Dang. This pleases me no end. Hooray for sleuthing victories to bring in the new year.
The usual Agatha Christie romp full of twists and red herrings and the inevitable classism, snobbery, and noblesse oblige. Also the ever delightful subjugation of women. Why oh why did books of this time period think it perfectly ok to shake women? I think they were trying to show how strong and manly the man was? That he was forceful...and that somehow equated to him being a good man? Bizarre. Utterly bizarre.
But anyway, moving on. Fun book. Delighted that I came across an Agatha Christie I knew nothing about.

There were some similarities to other Christie novels, but I enjoy her writing and how things come together and I love Marple. Neele was good character as well.

I think this is the first time that the killer has really disappointed me. I liked Pat and I didn't want things to go down this way for her. There were some similarities to other Christie novels, but I enjoy her writing and how things come together and I love Marple. Neele was good character as well.

i very much enjoyed this book. it was a buddy read so it was very fun to figure out the mystery with other people and watch everyone’s progression of thoughts throughout the story. anyway i love how this channeled my inner sherlock, i definitely didn’t feel like this was an easily figured out mystery. very enjoyable, i love how the answer to this mystery wasn’t obvious. would recommend to mystery lovers!

A really interesting mystery! Once more we find ourselves among a family with some secrets to unveil while trying to find out who the killer is. Despite some questionable plot points, I ended up enjoying the story!

This one was pretty good! I did not figure out the culprit at all but I did figure out Mrs MacKenzie's daughter was in the family (and her identity) as soon as it was mentioned that she had a daughter so that's something I guess . Mrs Marple only showed up a little bit at the end sadly but Inspector Neele was likable enough!
